If you would like to skip this intro. and see more on Inland Spain, Calasparra, the Province of Murcia, or our projects and properties for sale, please visit our main website www.cps-spain.com otherwise, please allow me to introduce ourselves as Jim and Marie Cregeen, originally from the Leicestershire area of the UK, and since 1999 right here in sunny Murcia, Spain.
Back in 1988 we sold up our home, rental properties and several businesses, which included house construction and sales, and began what was to become almost 12 years of constant travel around the world, “living” in 34 countries including mainland Europe, the USA, Canada, Mexico, the middle and far east, Australia, India and China to name just a few. By 1999 we were in need of a little R&R and with a new custom built American caravan, settled at a Spanish friends camping in the then little known town of San Javier on the northern Mar Menor, Murcia, Spain. At that time there were very few tourists in the San Javier area with the result that the camping was not a viable business until our involvement in it. Initially we introduced new British caravan and camper owners, then later converting a large portion of the camping into the deluxe mobile home park that it is today. By 2003 we realised that if the mobile home business was to grow we would soon need more space which was almost impossible to find along the coast, hence our travels inland where we discovered the warm and friendly ambience of Calasparra in north-west Murcia. By early 2004 Marie and l had purchased various properties and tracts of land for investment, later building a new luxury home with pool for our own use in the tiny hamlet of La Ñora, just 4kms. from central Calasparra. Year 2005 saw the completion of our first Calasparra project, an old finca, professionally and expertly converted into two self-contained, fully furnished 2 bedroom apartments for vacation or short term renting. It also saw our own new home construction sufficiently habitable that we could now make Calasparra our base while retaining occasional accommodations at the camping, since we still had some vacant parcels that would, by the year end, all have been leased to new British mobile home purchasers. In December 2006 we finally leased the last permitted mobile home parcel at the camping which co-incided with the termination of our contract with campsite owner and dear friend Enrique, allowing us to concentrate fully on our Calasparra projects. 2006 also saw the demolition of yet another old finca in preparation of the construction of 3 new two bedroom luxury duplex homes in our own village of La Ñora. 2007 was an equally busy year with the start of the above new duplex homes which will be completed by mid 2008, plus a satisfactory conclusion to our much awaited application to Murcia town hall for a building licence for our 2+ acres of flat fenced land with part new construction in La Daya, an area of Calasparra just one mile from the town centre. 2008 has started very well despite the obvious downturn in retail property sales. Our economical apartments and 10€ per day camping facilities have been bouyant, especially since this year Calasparra is celebrating the Jubilee of Our Lady Of Hope at the Santuario, and has a full program of events planned which are estimated to bring in over one million visitors.
